He began his career in Washington as a legislative aide on the staff of Sen. John Culver. Over the years, he has managed communications programs for NASDAQ, the National League of Cities, the National Council on Aging, and Claritas, a market research firm.

Michael got a B.A. in American Studies from Grinnell College and an M.A. in English from George Mason University.

Fun Facts
  • While he would never modify the noun “facts” with the adjective “fun,” he enjoys a glass-is-way-more-than-half-full life with his wife, four children, and one grand young’un. To accelerate the proliferation of his gray hair, he has begun a fourth year as a boy scout leader in Annandale, Virginia.

  • He plays in a working rock and roll band called Big Tow but is not responsible for coming up with that name. In 1968, he and one of his band mates first played together in a popular Northern Virginia band called The Magical Popcorn Machine, which performed twice on the cheesy local TV program “Wing Ding,” Washington’s version of “American Bandstand.”

  • Answers to the each of five questions Michael is most frequently asked:
    1. No.
    2. No.
    3. No.
    4. No.
    5. OH ALRIGHT!
